The Only Horned Whale in the World

The Only Horned Whale in the World. Narwhal (Monodon monoceros) is the name of one of the most lucrative whale is not known to man. The name "narwhal" is derived from the Old Norse language, meaning "whale wrote a corpse". The name was given because of his habit that sometimes swim motionless on the sea level to the position of the abdomen facing up & grey dotted colorize as sailors who drowned. They only live in the waters of the North Pole across the Arctic Ocean, to be exact. Narwhal is toothed whales & including carnivores who ate sea animals such as fish, shrimp or squid

Spiral narwhal Horn serve as sensors that helped him find out the quality of the water and to "smell" the narwhal.

A narwhal whale horn can reach 2.4 meters in length that has since long been a puzzle experts and hunters. A description of its function also often give rise to debate, so said Dr. Martin Nweeia, a researcher at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

According to Nweeia, Horn seemed to have sensing capability hydrodynamic. He revealed this in a presentation at the Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals in San Diego.

Narwhal (Monodon monoceros) is a species of whale, including very rare. The length of its body reached 4 to 4.5 meters, and are mostly found in the waters of the Arctic Ocean about Canada, but sometimes also seen far East to Russia.

Team narwhal Horn Nweeia found that similar to the membrane with surface which is very sensitive. There are about 10 million nerves connected to the surface of its horns, in order to detect changes in temperature, pressure, and levels of salt water.

"Isn't there something comparable to it in nature and there's nothing more unique than the Horn narwhal in terms of shape, appearance, and functions.

Every whale narwhal (Monodon monoceros) also use sound to communicate with each other as well as the dolphins or whales. In fact, each is likely to have a unique sound which also shows its identity.

Scientists have long known that marine mammals use sound signals to communicate with each other in the water. Recent research shows that the whale had even dialects.

However, there has been a lot of research that investigates the identity of the voice as used the narwhal whales. The researchers are convinced the whale to recognize the narwhal to use — and distinguish one individual to another individual.

The scientists concluded after studying a three voice in Admiralty Bay tail narwhal in Baffin Island, Canada. They use electronic recorder that taped in the body of the giant mammals.

"For the first time, we really can follow the animals whenever they voiced and anywhere they are moving," said Ari Shapiro from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Although one of the records tool is gone, the remaining two have shown a different form of voice, a voice whistling and throbbing. Shapiro suggests that these two types of noise signal is used to exchange information on a food source, but merely indicates the identity of the individual in social communication.

What does the whale narwhal is similar to the bottle nose dolphin are also sound whistles to communicate. Although data regarding communication between the whale narwhal is still minimal, scientists are confident he has a very sensitive hearing as well as other whales.

They routinely perform migration to thousands of kilometers and gregarious. Then with different voices, each can distinguish individuals in the group or other groups. The results of this research was published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America's Edition of September 2006.
